Methane Bubble Ring

Methane Ring
Sterling silver, gray moonstone
After reading articles about the active release of methane from thawing permafrost and observing it myself on walks on trails around my house in Fairbanks, Alaska, I was struck at the rapid rate the gasses in these bodies of water move.

This ring is inspired by the bubbles that are constantly rising to the surface of thermokarst lakes in the subarctic and arctic regions. They continue rising to the atmosphere, heedless of being observed or unobserved as warming temperatures thaw areas of permafrost.
Media shared from research being conducted at UAF (my day-job employer).
Methane can also be lit on fire as it is released from the ground, which is equally as dramatic.
